First off, any show that acknowledges "Cats Don't Dance" can't be all bad.
Second off, we as nerds seem to compare all animation to either Batman:TAS or anime in that "we" demand all of our shows to have Important and Serious storylines because teenagers can't embrace their true edgelord-dom while watching fun and happy cartoons. It makes me want to avoid the new Voltron because the fandom seems to make it feel overly Important and it makes me dread future series of Ladybug because I'm down for light, fluffy homage.
I was originally turned off to the original Teen Titans because you could tell it wanted to visibly and noticeably ape the Shonen Jump style. I came around to it, but it's by no means a flawless show.
It's okay to be critical of things that look vapid, and it's also okay to have a meaningful connection with television, but at some point you need to strike a balance between your own wants and needs with the merits of the actual show.
the new Voltron is great. It is serious at times but it's not overly edgy or anything like that.
It has some very funny and just silly stuff, like an entire episode set in a space mall.
They buy a cow and get chased by a mall cop on a segway,
